About the Role

The Fire & Life Safety Engineer is responsible for designing, reviewing, and implementing fire safety systems across various types of projects. The role involves ensuring compliance with local codes and international standards, enhancing fire safety strategies, and managing design, inspection and testing activities.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Review

  • Develop and review fire safety strategies and life safety systems for various projects, adhering to SBC, NFPA, and international standards.

  • Prepare fire safety reports, evacuation plans, and cause-and-effect matrices.

  • Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical designs for fire safety compliance.


Inspection and Testing (If required)

  • Conduct inspections and testing of fire safety systems, including alarms, sprinklers, smoke control systems, and emergency lighting.

  • Perform GAP analyses and recommend corrective actions for existing buildings.


Training and Compliance

  • Train teams on safety protocols and manage safety compliance for contractors.

  • Create and update internal safety programs and procedures.

  • Develop the team if there is any update in codes or regulations.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Obtain approvals for fire safety system designs from regulatory bodies like Civil Defense, MODON, and GACA.

  • Oversee project handovers to ensure adherence to safety requirements.


Coordination and Collaboration

  • Work with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate fire safety systems into project designs.

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to align project safety strategies with regulatory authorities.


Computer Modeling and Simulations :

  • Use fire modeling software (e.g., FDS - Fire Dynamics Simulator, Pyrosim) to predict fire spread, heat release, and smoke behavior within buildings .

  • Run evacuation simulations to ensure the design allows safe egress for all occupants, including those with limited mobility.


Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare BOQs, technical specifications, and commercial proposals for fire safety systems.

  • Maintain detailed records of fire safety designs, inspections, and compliance reports.


Cost Estimation:

  • Estimate material, labor, and installation costs for fire protection systems to ensure the project stays within budget without sacrificing safety.


Compliance and Code Adherence:

  • Ensure designs meet local, national, and international codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC, UL, BS).

  • Work with regulatory bodies, fire marshals, and building inspectors to ensure designs pass all necessary reviews.


Outside the company
  • Coordinate with Civil Defense, municipalities, and other regulatory authorities for approvals and certifications .

  • Work with contractors to oversee system installations and ensure adherence to safety protocols.


Within the company
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure fire safety systems align with project specifications .

  • Report progress and compliance issues to senior management.


Job Specifications
  • 7 - 10 years of experience in fire safety engineering

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire and Safety Engineering or a related field Fluency in English, both written and spoken.


Special Factor/ Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of fire safety systems, fluid dynamics (for sprinkler systems), electrical engineering (for alarm systems), and building construction.

  • Fire Safety Regulations: Proficiency in fire codes and standards like NFPA, IBC, SBC and OSHA requirements and local regulations .

  • CAD Software: Ability to use design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and specialized fire protection design tools.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to solve complex design challenges in environments with unique fire safety needs (e.g., hospitals, high-rise buildings, industrial plants).

  • Communication Skills: Work collaboratively with diverse teams and explain design decisions to stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire safety systems
