About the Role
The Senior Energy Optimization and Advanced Simulation Engineer is responsible to optimize building energy performance, utilizing advanced simulations, and driving the integration of innovative and sustainable design solutions into complex architectural and multidisciplinary projects. The successful candidate will be a thought leader in energy-efficient building design and simulation, with a proven track record of delivering high-performance building systems.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Leadership in Energy Optimization:
Lead the development of energy strategies for large-scale and high-performance building projects.
Oversee the creation and validation of complex energy models using advanced tools (e.g., IES-VE, EnergyPlus, DesignBuilder).
Guide design teams in incorporating energy-saving technologies and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar PV, geothermal, wind turbines).
Provide strategic advice on achieving certifications such as LEED Platinum, BREEAM Excellent, WELL, and Net Zero Energy goals.
Advanced Simulation and Innovation:
Direct advanced simulations, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermal analysis, and environmental performance modeling.
Conduct cutting-edge studies in daylighting, solar radiation, passive cooling, and thermal comfort to inform design decisions.
Lead the application of parametric and generative design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Rhino, Ladybug Tools) to optimize building systems.
Spearhead the integration of AI and machine learning techniques into energy modeling and building performance analysis.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Work closely with architects, urban planners, and structural, electrical, and sustainability teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems in building designs.
Act as a key contributor in early design charrettes, providing advanced energy and simulation insights to influence project outcomes.
Serve as the primary technical advisor for clients and stakeholders on energy performance and sustainability strategies.
Research, Development, and Compliance:
Stay ahead of global trends and innovations in energy optimization, renewable technologies, and simulation tools.
Drive the adoption of best practices and new technologies within the firm to enhance project delivery.
Ensure compliance with local and international codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, CIBSE, Passive House).
Publish white papers, attend conferences, and lead training sessions to promote technical excellence within the team.
Project Management and Quality Control:
Manage multiple complex projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
Review and validate simulation models and analysis reports to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Coordinate with project managers to align energy optimization tasks with broader project schedules and objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Certification:
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
Advanced certifications such as LEED AP, WELL AP, CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or ASHRAE BEMP (Building Energy Modeling Professional) are required.
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in energy modeling, simulation, and optimization in the building industry.
Proven expertise in delivering high-performance projects for commercial, residential, and urban-scale developments.
Strong experience with advanced simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, OpenFOAM, EnergyPlus, TRNSYS) and parametric design software (e.g., Grasshopper, Dynamo).
Skills:
