Challenge:
As the largest governmental hospital in Amman, Al-Bashir faced a critical need for comprehensive modernization to meet the growing demands of the city’s expanding population. The existing facility, which lacked sufficient capacity and updated infrastructure, required a multi-phase rehabilitation plan spanning several years. This involved introducing new departments, upgrading service units, and reconfiguring transportation links between departments—without disrupting ongoing medical services.
Approach:
The 25-year development plan for Al-Bashir Hospital was divided into three distinct stages to ensure continuous functionality throughout construction. In Stages 1 and 2, a new Maternity and Pediatric Department was introduced, adding up to 350 beds and upgrading several critical service units. Bridges were constructed to connect different hospital departments, easing staff and patient movement.
Stage 3 focused on the General Surgery and Internal Medicine Department, adding 465 beds. The design emphasized efficiency and patient-centered care, with eight stories housing outpatient specialty clinics, administrative offices, labs, study halls, a library, a restaurant, and storage facilities. Throughout all phases, modern engineering solutions and medical planning best practices were implemented to meet international standards.
Impact:
The staged rehabilitation of Al-Bashir Hospital has positioned it as a modernized, patient-centric medical facility capable of delivering high-quality care to the community. With its expanded capacity and upgraded infrastructure, the hospital now serves as a model for future public healthcare developments in Jordan. The multi-phase approach ensured continuous operation, allowing patients to receive uninterrupted care while the hospital transformed into a state-of-the-art institution that will meet the region’s healthcare needs for decades to come.
