Challenge:
The Cement Factory Housing project required the development of a self-sufficient residential community for workers and their families in two distinct mountainous locations—Fuhais and Al Rashadiya. The challenge was to integrate a large-scale housing development into the natural landscape, ensuring privacy, comfort, and modern amenities, while fostering a strong community spirit. Additionally, the project had to provide essential infrastructure and facilities to enhance the residents' quality of life.

Approach:
The design by Dar Al Omran - Rasem Badran (DAO-Badran) embraced both contemporary and traditional architectural principles, creating a cohesive urban environment that respected the topography and cultural context of each location. The housing units were carefully arranged in clusters, forming an integrated community-oriented layout that encouraged interaction while preserving privacy. The design leveraged natural terraces and open courtyards, optimizing views and ventilation while reinforcing a sense of place and belonging. Each housing complex included a commercial center and a mosque, ensuring that essential social and spiritual functions were seamlessly incorporated within the development. The use of repetitive design prototypes contributed to architectural unity, while adaptive strategies allowed the buildings to respond to their specific topographical conditions.

Impact:
The Cement Factory Housing project successfully provided a sustainable and well-integrated living environment for its residents, establishing a model for worker housing that prioritizes both functionality and cultural continuity. By thoughtfully merging modern efficiency with traditional architectural values, the development fostered a sense of stability and identity, offering a resilient and adaptable housing solution. Through its careful planning and execution, the project stands as a testament to the importance of community-driven residential design, ensuring long-term livability while respecting the unique landscapes of Fuhais and Al Rashadiya.
