Challenge
The Heart of Sharjah development aimed to revive the historical and cultural fabric of the city while accommodating modern urban needs. The challenge was to create a balanced urban environment that preserves Sharjah’s architectural heritage while introducing contemporary infrastructure and amenities.
Approach
Inspired by the vision of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, the master plan was designed to reinforce Sharjah’s role as a cultural and heritage hub. The project focused on restoring historic structures, integrating them with new urban spaces that foster art, commerce, and community activities. The design emphasized traditional urban patterns, narrow alleyways, and shaded courtyards to enhance the pedestrian experience while ensuring seamless connectivity to key landmarks such as the Sharjah Creek, Port Khalid, and the city center.
Impact
The Heart of Sharjah has become a vibrant cultural district, reinforcing the city’s position as a center for heritage and the arts. By merging history with modern urban life, the development has revitalized the area, attracting residents, tourists, and creative industries, all while preserving the essence of Sharjah’s past.
