Challenge
The challenge was to design a diplomatic facility that embodied both the UAE’s identity and its relationship with the host country, Jordan. The embassy had to serve as a symbol of national pride while being a welcoming and functional space. The design needed to blend Emirati architectural elements with the local architectural culture of Amman, creating a harmonious connection between the two.
Approach
The design approach focused on integrating Emirati and Jordanian architectural styles to create a unique yet culturally resonant identity for the embassy. The approach included:
Geometric Forms: Incorporating traditional Emirati geometric designs and translating them into a Jordanian context through the careful use of local materials.
Cultural Integration: The building was designed to blend with the urban fabric of Amman, using local stone and materials that respect the city’s cultural and architectural heritage.
Symbol of Unity: The design aimed to create a visual landmark that reflects both national pride and the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and Jordan.
Impact
The UAE Embassy in Amman stands as a cultural landmark, representing the values and heritage of the UAE while being in harmony with the cultural fabric of the city. The design not only serves as the first point of contact for visitors but also establishes a welcoming and functional embassy space. The building’s unique blend of Emirati tradition and Jordanian context enhances its identity as a symbol of diplomacy, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to building positive relationships with Jordan.
