The challenge was to restore and preserve the village’s authenticity while integrating modern infrastructure and accessibility improvements without disrupting its historical integrity.

Approach:
DAO’s approach focused on a comprehensive restoration strategy that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering solutions to ensure the longevity of the site. This included:

Heritage Conservation: Using original stone and traditional building techniques to maintain the architectural character of the village.
Landscape & Place-Making: Introducing native landscaping elements to complement the natural environment and enhance visitor experience.
Infrastructure Development: Implementing modern utilities such as drainage, firefighting, irrigation, water supply, and electrical systems while ensuring minimal visual and structural impact.
Advanced Surveying & Analysis: Utilizing GIS mapping, 3D laser scanning, and photogrammetry to accurately document existing structures and support informed restoration decisions.
Environmental & Economic Studies: Conducting detailed assessments to balance preservation with sustainable tourism and economic revitalization.

Impact:
The restoration of Thee Ayn Historical Village has revitalized a cultural landmark, transforming it into a key heritage tourism destination. By adopting a meticulous and historically sensitive approach, DAO ensured that the site not only preserves its architectural and cultural legacy but also offers a well-integrated visitor experience that aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 tourism development goals.
